Making gamelan instruments more accessible for people

NUIG Engineering students, Thomas O’ Malley, Thomas Fahy, Adrian Healy and Ahmed Osman recently presented this prototype table at the Department of Engineering / CKI day. This is the result of an initiative that encourages students to link up with a community group for a shared learning experience. The students designed and made this table after meting with the Gamelan team, wheelchair users and carers. “There is no doubt we could still improve on this prototype stressed Thomas O’ Malley but we hope this table will make some of your gamelan instruments more accessible to people”.

Our thanks to the four students for developing this prototype with us.

We are looking forward to further developing this new partnership with the Engineering Department at NUIG.
